One of the key announcements at the Google I/O this year was a new series of devices called the Android One that Sundar Pichai spoke of. He detailed the phones to be akin to the Nexus line, though at about one-fifth the price point. The specs as expected would not be top of the shelf, but would allow the users to enjoy the native Android experience at a budget price.

The announcement of the first set of Android One devices is set to take place in Delhi today, with Spice, Micromax and Karbonn all set to showcase the Android One hardware for the first time. It is interesting that all the three devices will be available for sale at only one of the three top E-Com portals in India. While Flipkart pretty much confirmed that it would be carrying the Spice device thanks to accidently making the product page go live, Amazon has tweeted that it would be carrying the Micromax device. We suspect, Snapdeal will be the one where the Karbonn phone will go on sale.
The Micromax device is expected to go on sale starting at 3:30 PM today, though we have no idea how many of these Android One phones will be in stock. In terms of specs, the device is expected to bring a 4.5 inch display with MediaTek SoC and a Dual SIM card slot. The phone will run the latest Android 4.4 out of the box with Google supporting timely updates.
