Android 4.4 Kitkat to launch on October 14th?

We recently got the confirmation that the next Android version would be called the Kitkat. Yes, it may leave you slurping, and craving for more chocolates, but also be the most tasty Android yet. However, seeing that the version of Android is slated to be 4.4 and not 5, it gives us a feeling that this may well be another incremental update instead of a significant jump. So, if the past is to go by, Kitkat would basically bring in more smoothness and a couple of new features and that would be about it. Those who wanted drastic UI changes are in for a disappointment by the looks of things.

The latest report in the market says that the update may well roll out and be official as early as October 14th. It may also be the time, when the new Nexus 5 will be launched. The move does make a lot of sense as it keeps the whole holiday season into the picture.

According to AusDroid, the following would be some of the awesome features of Android 4.4:

  • Firmware availability to older phones
  • Fragmentation changes (screen resizing)
  • Miracast updates
  • New Gallery Visualisation
  • New APIs regarding animations
  • Change android default blue to other preset palette colours
  • New notification widgets
