According to a report published by Mashable, Android has beaten the leading players like iOS and RIM Blackberry as the number one selling operating system in US.
In a not so unexpected revelation, the market share of Android is around 29%, with IOS and RIM tied at second securing 27% each. Windows mobile 7 takes a consolation third with about 10% with Palm almost accounting for 4% of market share.
The most shocking is the mere 2% share of once the hot favorite of everyone symbian, which just about proves the decline in sales of Nokia handsets and no wonder they are moving to Windows Phone 7 platform.
In what is a closely contested market, it may well be that open market platform of Android that wins this heated race for the most popular operating system in smart phones.
The recent success of the Droid range of devices and Nexus added to the highly acclaimed Evo and eye candy features of gingerbread are just a few reasons why Andoid has come trumps against IOS. And with Atrix probably the most anticipated smarte phone, the Android wave is sure to continue.
