Apple Announces the New iPhone 5s and 5c at the Apple Event

Apple events are literally like Christmas, its a day when wishes of millions of Apple enthusiasts come true. It is the day day that many believe sets the trend for what happens through the year in the world of Mobile Tech, or rather, a day which lays a standard that people in the mobile world strive to match in one year after which Apple holds another of their famous launch events.

iOS 7 Event invite

We all pretty much knew what was coming this Apple event. Early morning around 10 AM PST Apple rolled the dice out in the event that saw the announcement of new iPhones, an update on iOS 7 and a lot more, lets dig in one by one and recap these events.

The New iPhone 5S and 5C

The word was well out before the event’s invites that there will be new iPhones on the show. In fact it must have been one of the worst kept secrets that Apple is going to announce a successor to the hugely popular iPhone 5 in the form of iPhone 5S and a budget device called the iPhone 5C.

iPhone 5S

The iPhone 5S is an upgrade to iPhone 5 and would be available from September 20th with pre orders from September 13th in select countries. The device will cost $199 for 16 GB variant, $299 for 32 GB and $399 for 64 GB on a two year contract. The device as expected will be available in silver, space grey and golden colors. There have been a few changes from the inside. The iPhone 5S features a MegaPixel camera with F2.2 apperture, a faster A7 Processor and comes preloaded with iOS 7. The pixel size is 1.5 microns and the device has two LEDs for the right whitebalance. There is also auto image stablization and burst mode. The camera can also record in slo-mo at 120 fps and 720 P resolution.

An there is a much anticipated Biometric finger scanner called Touch ID in there to keep your iPhone safer than ever. The device has a 64 Bit chip, a first ever for phones. It runs OpenGL|ES 3.0. This makes gameplay even better, and there are a ton of awesome things like the ability to tell when you are walking, stationary etc. There is promised 250 hours standby on the device. Expect the device to be released in India in December 2013 and the unlocked price is $649.

iPhone 5C

The interesting bit of news though is the iPhone 5C. It is basically a more colorful iPhone 5. The device is the first foray of Apple in the world of budget devices taking on the likes of Samsung and Sony and Nokia targeting developing countries esp in South Asia. The iPhone 5C would feature the same 4 inch screen, 8 MP rear Camera, a new HD front facing camera and would be powered by the A6 processor. The device will be available in various attractive colors. Some of them are bright yellow, blue, white, pink and green. Apple announced various shells for the devices which have circular cut outs giving it a very colorful feel. The iPhone 5C would be available from 20th September and will set you back $99 on 16 GB Variant and $199 on 32 GB ones . The shells or cases are worth $29 each. It indeed could be one product by Apple that could rock a lot of players in the tech world. The unlocked price of a 16 GB variant is $549.

iOS 7 will be public soon

Apple also announced that the much anticipated update to iOS 7 will be rolling out from September 18th. The update will be available globally as an OTA to all the existing devices on previous versions of iOS.  iOS 7 is indeed the biggest leap in terms of UI upgrade from the original iOS. It may have taken some time but iOS 7 is indeed now a lot more pleasing to the eyes than it was initially.

Other Announcements

Apple also announced that the popular apps such as iMovie, iPhoto and iWorks apps would now be free with purchase of any new iOS devices. Apple also announced the official launch of iRadio. Apple also said they would not be reducing the prices of the iPhone 5 but completely replacing it. There was also announcement of conclusion of epic Infinity Blade series.
