BBC is without a doubt the largest and one of the most respectable news sources in the world and their iPlayer is a very successful way of streaming the content over the internet and seeing the video streams of their various shows. Now if you own an iPhone or iPod Touch and are massive fan of the iPlayer service then you have a plenty to be happy about. BBC has announced over its blog that the contents of its iPlayer would be available over 3G streaming for iPhone over all the carriers.
This is what BBC had to say about this wonderful app:
The BBC iPlayer app for the iPhone and iPod touch puts all of the BBC’s national television channels and radio networks in your pocket. You can now watch live television channels and listen to live radio stations wherever you are.
The app is available to download in the Apple App Store now and is compatible with iPod touch or iPhone 3GS and above, running iOS4.3 and above.
You also have the additional ability to switch between the channels just like you would on a Radio or TV set and added to this is airplay which is the Apple’s way of wirelessly playing video on larger screens. With 3G streaming also enabled, you need not miss any of your favorite program and also catch all the latest news on the go. So far the 3G streaming is available only on iPad and iPhone version and not on iPod because they lack a 3G antennae, also BBC has specified that 3G streaming would soon be coming over their various mobile websites.
It definitely looks like a great step from BBC and one that would make them only more popular and make news a lot more accessible on the go.
