The last few days have been traumatic for any die hard fan. First, the release of BBM for Android and iOS was pretty much a disaster after several leaked apk files surfaced which created an issue on the back end. This lead to BlackBerry taking the plans of releasing the Android and iOS versions of the app down for now. Later it emerged that BlackBerry had accepted a bid by Fairfax to go private. Despite the two rather grim news, it does look like there may be a little silver lining at the end of this grey cloud.
The popular BlackBerry messenger, BBM may well be ready to roll out on desktop PC very soon. At BlackBerry Jam Session 2013, BlackBerry will launch the popular messaging app on Windows PC with an OSX version set to arrive soon. However, just like the iOS and Android version of the app, there is no strict release date of the app yet.
This may well prove to be a masterstroke from BlackBerry cause apart from WeChat and limited to iOS iMessage, none of the popular chat clients such as Whatsapp allow for a desktop version of the app and given the popularity of BBM, the desktop app may well be a saving grace, at least temporarily.
