Not too many knew that the popular TV host and actor Ryan Seacrest has co founded a startup with Laurence Hallier called Typo. Typo recently came out with a cover that fits the iPhone and adds a physical keyboard to the popular device. The device brings a very Blackberry like QWERTY keyboard to iPhone and no wonder the company faces a lawsuit from the Canadian Smartphone manufacturer.
Commenting on the lawsuit, the Chief Legal Officer of Blackberry said, “This is a blatant infringement against BlackBerry’s iconic keyboard, and we will vigorously protect our intellectual property against any company that attempts to copy our unique design, we are flattered by the desire to graft our keyboard onto other smartphones, but we will not tolerate such activity without fair compensation for using our intellectual property and our technological innovations”.
The lawsuit comes as a bitter blow for the company as they were taking pre orders for the device which would have gone out in the market sometime later this month. After being accused of blatantly copying the design, it would be interesting how the design language of Typo would be altered if at all, cause without a doubt it is an accessory that has place in the market and one that had people excited.
