Windows Phone devices are still fighting a battle for survival in the market. However, Microsoft on it’s part is continuing to add things here and there with a few updates. We know about the recent Amber update, but that is not where the story ends. Since then Lumia devices have received an update OTA which allows users to block calls and texts on their devices. This has been one of the most requested features on Nokia devices. In fact in a country like India where there is no end to the bullying on phone, call blocking works a treat.
As the GDR2 update continues to roll out, Nokia has quietly added these two features in the Extras+Info app. There were suggestions initially that users might have to wait for a third party application to do this magic, but Nokia has taken the matter in their own hands and seamless done the needful.
Sadly, the update is available only on Lumia devices running the GDR2 update, so it would be the Lumia 925 or the Lumia 1020 for now. And neither of the two devices are available in India yet. The Amber update is expected to roll out in the coming weeks, so we hope this feature would be released soon as well.
The news was first broken by WPCentral, where they claimed that you must first go to the Windows Phone Store via this link and update the Extras+Info app. You have to open the app first, and then restart your device. Restart the device, head to the main settings page and you will see the new option to block and filter calls and texts. You can also see the list of blocked users and numbers. There is a live tile available too for the app, but the best thing is that the update allows you to directly block the number from the call logs so you do not have to manually enter the number every time.
