After a lot of drama, Cyanogen, the team behind CyanogenMod has confirmed that they would continue to support CyanogenMod 11s with regular updates globally, including in India. It was a huge news last week, where OnePlus had announced that they would be coming up with an OS of their own after Cyanogen had signed what looked like an exclusive contract with Micromax and their upcoming line of devices, called ‘Yu’.
It is not clear what has prompted this u turn or yu turn, as you may like to think of it, but it’s definitely good news for everyone. Cyanogen categorically stated on its blog that:
We are proud of the work we did on the OnePlus One. Through our collaboration with OnePlus, we demonstrated the power of strong hardware and software tuned for exceptional performance. To clarify misinformation out there, the OnePlus One will get OTA firmware updates for all global devices, including global devices for our users in India.
This news would definitely be a good news for those who are interested in picking up the OnePlus and have been pushing the thought away simply because they were not sure of the software support for the same. We aint exactly sure how long the support would last, but at least in the short term, it is a good enough thing.
