Google has gradually started seeding out updates to Android KitKat 4.4 recently. We have updates for both Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 now available OTA across the globe. The updates have not been released for Nexus 4 yet, but surely it wont be too long before we get that too. However, as it has been customary, Google has made the Factory image of Android 4.4 available now. Surprisingly, in the images made available you can download image for Nexus 4.
The images can be flashed directly to your Nexus device as it contains the OS in the AOSP form. You will need to use your PC to be able to install these factory images. It is worth remembering that your device will be completely wiped out, meaning you will lose all the data when you install the factory images. Hence, before moving any further, make sure you have sufficient backups of your important data from the device.
To install these updates you may have a look at the step by step guide written at Addictive Tips here. The factory images are available directly from Google and the links are given below:
As you can see, the links are for both the versions of Nexus 7. It is not all that tough to flash the new Factory Image in case you do not really want to wait for the OTA Update especially if you are on a Nexus 4.
