What can Rs 251 buy for you? For our international readers, we are talking about just a shade under $4. Well, let’s see. A latte at your favorite coffee shop? Maybe some chocolates or a low-end deodorant? Or a smartphone? Yes, you read that right, you can pick up a 3G phone in India now starting at an earth shattering price of Rs 251 or $4. The dream has been made possible by a Noda based phone manufacturer called, Ringing Bells.
They have come up with a device called the Freedom 251, which in line with the Make in India and Digital India is aiming to bring a smartphone to everyone. The device comes with a 4-inch qHD display and is powered by a Snapdragon Quad Core chip. It has 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage with expansion possible via a MicroSD card. There is a 3.2 MP rear camera too on the Freedom 251 and a VGA camera if you would like to video call from your device. There are several applications that come pre-installed in the phone, the likes of Facebook, Whatsapp, Google Play, Swachch Bharat, Women Safety among others.
The phone will be available for registration from the website of Ringing Bells starting tomorrow morning at 6 AM. The official unveiling of the phone is scheduled for today evening in New Delhi. We hope that the phone for its sake, enjoy success more than the Akash tablet, which largely has been a failure and is able to entice those who could not afford a smartphone so far.
