After teasing us last week with the screenshots of the work that Google was doing with its official Gmail app in wake of the latest Android update, called Android L, Google has made the updated app available via Google Play now. Despite Inbox, an invite based only alternate released by Google, Gmail official app is still one of the most used E-Mail apps by Android users. Coupled with the safety and reliability reasons with the fact it comes pre-installed on most Android phones, you can see why Gmail app for Android is as popular as it is.
The new Gmail 5.0 brings a whole new Material design to the application in the build up to the Android 5.0 Lollipop release which is expected sometime around November 3rd. The application has also now added support for Corporate Exchange accounts, something that Inbox does not give you. The update has brought with it all the animations, shadow based design language that is universal with Android 5.0.
There is a possibility that as we move along and continue to use the application, more new features will be discovered, but for now, this is definitely a good sweetener for you, in case you just want to experience the Android Lollipop. The update will be available as an OTA for the existing users via Google Play. You can also directly download the apk from here.
