iOS 5.0 came with a blast with over a billion downloads in the first week itself. Though iOS 5 being very impressive chances are that you may be looking to downgrade to an earlier version of iOS because of one reason or another. According to me the most stable iOS working with jailbreak is 4.3.3 Today, we’re going to guide you on how to downgrade so that you can go back to iOS 4.3.3.
Before you continue please keep in mind that you can ONLY downgrade if you have previously backed up SHSH files for 4.3.3 version of iOS. This is because of certain security checks used by Apple to ensure people are glued to the latest version of iOS that apple releases. Please DO NOT try this process if your phone is not factory unlocked. ONLY proceed if you have a factory unlocked phone. Another important thing to keep in mind before staring the process is to stop your security software, firewall and to remove all other USB devices plugged into your system.
Step 1: Download the version of iOS to which you wish to downgrade to:
Step 2: Connect your iPhone with your computer via USB cable.
Boot into DFU mode.
1. turn off your device.
2. press and hold Power + Home buttons for about 10 seconds
3. release the Power button while holding Home button for another 10 seconds.
4. when the screen will go completely blank, you’re in DFU mode.
Step 3: Navigate to
Windows > System 32 > drivers > etc
On your system, Locate a file named hosts, make a backup copy of it and then open it up with a text editor. You should have administrator rights to open it and then save with changes made. So to open it right click the file and select run as administrator.
Step 4: Add the following code to hosts and save the file:
“18.104.22.168 gs.apple.com” without quotes.
Now Restart your system to continue with the process.
Step 5: Open up iTunes and choose your iOS device from the sidebar. While holding the Shift, click on Restore and choose the firmware file you downloaded in Step 1.
Step 6: You may receive Error 10xx after doing this, but there is no need to worry about it. You must download a program like TinyUmbrella or Fix Recovery, open it up and click on Exit Recovery to get out of the error.
If you followed the steps correctly, your device will now be downgraded from iOS 5.0 to 4.3.3. You now may want to jailbreak your device use JailbreakMe 3.0. Just open up safari on your phone and go to www.jailbreakme.com and install Cydia as you install the normal apps from the app store.
Congratulations you have successfully downgraded your iOS to 4.3.3
