How many of you witnessed weird looking red ring on your Xbox console? It happened once to me once when I was playing my favorite Call on Duty game with my cousin. We tried to fix it in our own way by checking the cables and disc. But when the issue still remained as it is we decided to check some articles on internet. After going through several articles we figured out that the issue is due to red lights glowing next to the power button.
If you look at your Xbox 360’s power button then you can notice that it is surrounded by four lights which makes a ring around it. In normal condition all the lights glow green. But if the light turns red then it is a panic alarm for you. It means there is some issue on your Xbox and you need to fix it to continue the game. Sometimes these issues can be fixa but sometimes you might need to send it to the service center for fix.
You may call the sections around red light as Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 as shown in the image below.
Here are the four possible issues and solutions to fix them:
Bottom Right Light is Red (Q4 Red –> Hardware Failure)
If the bottom right light is red then there is a problem in your Xbox’s hardware. It will throw out two digits error, either E74 or error from E00 to E99.
E74: There is no solution available for this problem available. You have to send your Xbox to Microsoft back for repair.
EXX: You need to turn off your device –> Disconnect the power cord from the back of your console –> Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and the power supply unit –> Reconnect them back –> Turn ON your device.
Both the left lights are Red (Q1, Q3 Red –> Overheating)
This problem occurs due to cooling failure.Your device is not cooling properly. It might be because of its non stop running. Turn off your console and wait for at least and hour to cool it. Also note that if your device is placed at cluttered place then make the place clean and make sure that its ventilation openings are free from any blockage. Keep it at cool place.
All Except Top Right Light Are Red (Q1, Q3, Q4 Red –> General Hardware Failure)
This might be the most fatal problem of your console and you need to send your Xbox 360 to Microsoft service center. But you need to check your adapter before coming to any conclusion. If the light on your adapter is red, orange or no light then there is a problem in your adapter. You need to disconnect the power cord from the back of your console –> unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and the power supply unit –> now connect them back ad turn on your console. If red light disappears then everything is fine. If the problem continues then contact Microsoft.
All Lights Are Red ( Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 Red –> AV Cable Error)
If all the lights are flashing red color then the problem exists in the way you connected your audio, video cables. Check out the A/V cable which connects your console to your television. Also check out your users manual to know how to connect your console with your television via AV cable.
What to do if your device need expert service
If the problem is unresolvable by you then you can contact Microsoft either by calling to the store where you bought your device. But the best way to contact them is through this customer support page. According to Microsoft it is the fastest way to send it to repair. You need to give them information about your problem and they will tell you whether they can fix it for free or it will charge something.
