Favicon is a small icon displayed on the side of browser navigation tab above URL of blog or website. It also displayed along with title when you bookmark any website. Favicon is necessary for branding of your blog. Anyone can easily identify your blog among lots of websites open on the same browser on different tabs.
Technically, favicon is a 16X16 pixel image with an extension of .ico . Favicon can be generated by various favicon generator tool. You can make your favicon in photoshop or paint software and later convert it into .ico extension with the help of tool.
How to select a favicon:
You can use anything as a favicon but you have to keep different things in your mind. You can choose your blog icon as your favicon. This is a best way to choose a favicon. Other than that you can also choose initial letter of your blog as a favicon. For ex. I have taken letters B & T as my favicon which is taken from word BLOG TECHNIKA. You can also select your own image as your blog favicon. There are lots of options available.

How to make a favicon of .ico extension
Photoshop is a simple way to generate a favicon of .ico extension. Select a 64×64 canvas size and make an icon with either use of fonts or playing with any image. Save it as .ico format. You have to download ICO (Windows Icon) file format plugin for Photoshop.
How to convert a .jpg image to .ico format
You can also make a favicon of .jpg format and later convert into .ico extension. You can make 32×32 pixel image on paint or compress any image to 32×32 pixel if you have an image of larger size. Now you can convert image into .ico format with the help of Favicon generator tool.
How to upload Favicon to blog or website
You have now a 16×16 favicon with .ico extension. Now you have to load this .ico file to your blog’s root directory. You can do this with the help of FTP client filezilla.
Open Filezilla, connect it to your server with entering host (your server IP), username and password. Open the folder where your WordPress is installed. Generally it is installed in Public_html folder. Upload (drag and drop) your file inside this root folder.

All done! You can check your brand new favicon by opening your blog in a browser. Post a comment if you face any problem in making a favicon and uploading it on root directory of your blog.
