HTC has announced the HTC M9 in Barcelona. As expected and seen through in several of the leaked images, the device is exactly as we had envisaged. It is not drastically different from what we have seen in the HTC M8 though there are a fair few things that have been changed around for better or for the worse. For the worse definitely cause HTC has done away with the dual lens setup on the back and gone with a singular camera, so for those who really liked the lens blur effect would be extremely disappointed.
Other than that, the power button has been moved to the right side of the device and there is a very iPhone-like volume rocker on the right flank of the device. There is a two-tone color scheme on the device and the curves here are a little more prominent. For example, the silver variant although silver from the back has a prominent gold color accent on the sides. In terms of the display, the device is running a 5 inch 1080 P display, interestingly, HTC has decided not to go with the a 2K display here. The boomsound speakers as expected are louder than ever before with 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound.
The chipset powering the phone is a Snapdragon 810 with each of the four cores clocked at 2 GHz with 64 bit architecture. There is 3 GB of RAM as well as 32 GB internal storage with support for micro SD expansion. The rear camera now is 20 MP and you have the 4 UltraPixel camera on the front.
You get a 2840 mAh battery out of the box with all the usual set of connectivities. The device comes with Android 5.0 out of the box with Sense 7. Sense 7 will be made available later in the year to the HTC M8 and other One devices. The device itself will sell in four colors including gunmetal grey, silver, gold and pink. The phone will start retailing in April from the Asia Pacific market.
