After an initial promise of supporting as many devices as possible for latest updates, HTC has already dumped the aesthetically pleasing HTC One S from the line of devices slated for an update to Android version 4.2. The news comes as a bit of a shock as well as surprise because the users of both, the HTC One X as well as the HTC One S were pretty sure of the update. No doubt, the devices will support the update thanks to the community efforts, but do not expect an OTA from HTC to come your way.
The formal announcement was:
“We can confirm that the HTC One S will not receive further Android OS updates and will remain on the current version of Android and HTC Sense. We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed the HTC One S to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences.”
One thing pretty much true about the statement is the fact that the owners would be disappointed. Anyone would be, given the HTC One S is hardly a one year old hardware and to not receive any updates further is plain sad. Once again the lack of vertical integration on Android strikes.
