In what could be considered a rather conservative step, Hugo Barra, the VP of Xiaomi has confirmed that the upcoming Xiaomi Mi5 will not bring a 2K display. Pretty much every upcoming flagship device in the year 2016, is expected to come with a 2K panel, with leaks around the Galaxy S7, LG G5 and even the HTC Perfume pretty much confirming this. Even last year for that matter, devices like the Galaxy S6 and the Nexus 6P, the phones that did well, came with 2K panels.
One excuse for not including the 2K panel on the device could be that it has proved to a battery drain on the devices, which have gone with it and that is why Xiaomi wants to keep the experience balanced. The news comes as a result of a Facebook post, made by Hugo asking Xiaomi loyalists to guess what are the new features that the fans could make out from the Homescreen screenshot that he has shared. The obvious one being that the phone will support Dual SIM, which most likely would be thanks to a hybrid tray, where you can either use a second SIM card or a Micro SD card. From the screengrab, it is also clear that the phone will come with NFC, which is another interesting piece. The Xiaomi Mi5 is expected to be announced on February 24th and will come with fingerprint scanner.
