Indian railways is working hard to attract customers through online railways booking. Recently time of online rail reservation extended from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m to 8:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. It means user can book online tickets anytime. No night restrictions now.

You have to give Rs 29 extra for online reservation. If you are booking using IRCTC, you have to pay Rs 19 extra.

A company must take permission of top officials of Indian railways to add this feature on their site. Of course they pay heavy money to railways in return.

Contact respective service provider/operators! Means this is not easy and cheap as you’re thinking if you’re planning to enable travel bookings on your website.

Good writeup.
I understand allowing booking through 3rd party site may require approval from railways officials. My query is on querying info. Any idea about how Indian railways provide time schedule/seat availability to third party site.

They provide it through their own servers which have been used by booking clerks since several years. :)
