One of the primary reasons for picking up a Nexus smartphone or tablet was that they are generally the first to receive the Android 5.0 or Lollipop update. However, despite making the source codes available to the major OEMS and promising an early November release, there is no clear word on when the most eagerly anticipated update for Android will be available, with signs that it could be somewhere around November 12th when it rolls out.
The surprise is that while the Nexus users wait to receive the update, LG G3 users are rejoicing as LG has confirmed that they are rolling out the Android 5.0 update as early as starting this week. The major design change behind the update is the move to Material Design and it is expected the update from LG will be extremely close to the unaltered Nexus feel, which explains the quick rollout. It is also expected that the Motorola devices would be getting the Lollipop update very soon.
Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company said: “LG is absolutely committed to giving our customers the best mobile experiences available and bringing Android Lollipop to G3 owners as soon as possible is a top priority. The new features and improvements in Android 5.0 will bring a whole new user experience to the G3 and make it even better than it already is“.
This move definitely would have the Nexus users in a bit of a twist. LG G3 owners in Poland will receive the update first and that will be followed by a global rollout over the next few weeks. HTC has also confirmed that it would be releasing the update for HTC M7 and M8 by February. LG has not commented yet on the availability of the update for the G2 or other devices.
