Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 to start getting Android 4.4 Update from Today

If you are in the Indian subcontinent, this might be a great news to wake up to. Android has confirmed that starting today, the two Nexus Tablets i.e Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 will start receiving OTA for an update to Android 4.4 KitKat. We have been playing with the leaked ROMs of Android 4.4 on our Nexus 7 in the past week and the tablet definitely showed a lot of promise and improvements when running the latest Android version on a hardware that is now slightly over an year old.

Oddly though, there is no news about the update for Nexus 4 which is bemusing to an extent as the smartphone has always been one of the very first to receive updates from Google and has a Hardware that is hardly slouch.

The updates will roll out region wise as expected, so you may have to wait for a little bit for them to be available on your device. Some of the interesting add on thanks to Android 4.4 updates are as follows:

  • New dialer app with built in search.
  • Revamped Hangouts app that integrates SMS and Chat
  • Better cloud storage integration
  • New lock screen that shows additional data
  • System wide wireless printing
  • Full screen immersive mode option inside applications
  • Performance boost
  • OS level support for IR Blasters,  low power sensors, additional bluetooth profiles
