Nokia Begins Rolling out Windows 8.1 Update for its WIndows 8 Devices

Nokia had promised the time frame of June end to July as the period when they start rolling out the latest Windows 8.1 update to their Windows 8 lineup of devices. They have kept their word as the update started rolling out yesterday officially. As expected the update is in batches, so you should expect it soon in case you have not received it yet. Nokia is calling the update Nokia Cyan Update, so in case you get a notification for that, do not be taken aback as to what Cyan is about. It would promptly take your device to Windows 8.1.

There are several new features in the Lumia Cyan update which includes a new simplified Camera UI as well as full resolution zooming and one tap to access or edit pictures. Not just this, you get Creative Studio 6 which basically brings new filters and enhancements to make your pictures look a lot better. Nokia Device hub is also included, which is a bit like ‘Find my iPhone’ where all your Windows Phone 8.1 running devices are listed with their locations. Sensor Core SDK is also included for devices which have the Sensor Core companion chip in built to help you monitor the number of steps taken, keeping a check on your health. Devices like the Lumia 1520 and the Lumia 930 will also get Miracast support.

All the other usual features of Windows Phone 8.1 such as Action Center, Cortana (when it releases), Individual Volume Channel Controls, Internet Explorer 11, ability to set personalised background are a part of the update that should be hitting your devices soon.
