Obi Mobiles, well known for its chief backer, Mr John Scully, the infamous Apple boss who got Steve Jobs fired from the company is now Obi Worldphone. The startup had introduced a few feature phones and laid a roadmap ahead for India a while ago, though there were no clear details on the way forward. It was clear that there was a lot of work happening behind the scenes and that is a result that Obi Worldphone has now released two new smartphones with the title: Obi SF1 and Obi SJ1.5.
First look at the phones and you are taken back to the days of the Nokia N9 or the Lumia 800. The device has a similar raised glass display to give the feel of a floating touch. In terms of specifications, the SF1 comes with a 5 inch, 1080 P display with Snapdragon 615 SoC doing its magic. You have a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front facing camera. You get the phone in both 2 GB and 3 GB RAM variants with 16 and 32 GB variants respectively. There is a micro SD slot for further expansion. The phone comes with Android 5.0.1 out of the box with Obi’s own software skin on top of it.
SF1 is a dual SIM phone with LTE support and beyond that you have Dolby Audio support which gives the phone amazing sound quality, both from the speakers and the headphones. The device has a built in 3000 mAh battery. The SJ1.5 on the other hand has really trimmed down specs and features a 5 inch display with a 720 P resolution. There is a 2.5D curved glass on the phone along with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The phone is powered by a MT6580 processor with Mali 400 MP2 GPU. It has a 1 GB RAM and 16 GB of internal storage and runs Android 5.1 out of the box. The camera configuration is 8 MP and 5 MP and you have dual SIM support. However, you only have HSPA+ connectivity and no 4G here.
