Yu, the sister brand of Micromax made a massive buzz in the market when they announced the Yureka, their first device in India with CyanogenMod for a price of Rs 8,999. The price was extremely significant as some of the features that the device brings on board, as well as the specifications, are same as those seen in very top tier devices. Features like LTE as well as the customizations thanks to CM 11 are significant in the price bracket. Yu announced that the device will remain an online exclusive and will only target the tech-savvy developer community initially, which would translate to not a lot of stock coming in the first batch.
The first sale of the Yureka is set to go live on Amazon tomorrow (January 13th) and is a highly anticipated event. It has been revealed that only 10,000 devices will go on sale while more than 3 lakh users have registered, which prompted Yu to close the registrations one day in advance to what they planned on December 24th.
Rahul Sharma, the Co-Founder of Yu said:
We saw unprecedented response with over three lakh registrations. Registrations were to be open till 25th December. However, owing to the mega response they had to be closed a day earlier. We are working on ramping our capacities. Given the kind of enthusiasm that we have seen, we will increase the number of units put out for sale gradually.
The device will cost Rs 8,999 and will also come with Cash on Delivery option for the users.
