Samsung has announced that it would be launching a 5 inch smart phone called the Samsung Grand at the CES 2013 in LA early next year. The device is a pretty much a scaled down and mid range version of the hugely popular Galaxy Note 2. The phone would be available in both single sim as well as dual sim configuration. The mere presence of dual sim would suggest that this phone is manufactured keeping in mind the South East Asian market because this is the region where dual sim phones are in high demand. The phone has a resolution of 480×800 which is very low as compared to the true HD resolution on both the Note 1 and Note 2. It seems like this device is a move by Samsung to allow the mid rage market to have its first real Phablet.
There has been no announcement of prices just yet, even though it is speculated that the device would cost around Rs. 20,000. The other specifications of the device includes 1.2 GHz Dual Core Processor, an 8 MP rear camera and 2 MP front facing camera. Both the cameras have the ability to record in HD. The phone would ship with 2100 mAh battery which should provide plenty of juice for this 5 inch smart phone. The screen on the device is WVGA so you can be assured that the display is nothing great to write home about. The phone would have 8GB internal storage memory and a micro SD expansion slot. Galaxy grand would come with Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 out of the box and would be a home to plenty of Samsung premium apps as well as Touch Wiz Interface.
What are your opinions about this smart phone? Are you excited or do you feel it would be a flop just like some of the other phablets like Dell Streak which had poor screens. Do let us know in the section below.
