Sony Pulls the Plug on the Iconic Xperia Z Series; There Will be no Xperia Z6

Sony has decided to kill one of the most iconic series in Android smartphones. With reports of a failing business and plans to perhaps fold away from the mobile business altogether, Sony has decided to do away with the Xperia Z series. The series that has seen several iconic phones like the Xperia Z1, Z3, Z5 and the Z3 Compact will no longer be updated as Sony has decided to pull the plug from the series. As a result, it is clear that there would be no Xperia Z6.

Sony will be replaceing the Xperia Z series with an all new Xperia X series, which we have already seen at MWC 2016. The event saw Sony unveiling three new devices in the form of the Xperia X. Xperia XA and Xperia X Performance. The news comes from a discussion that took place between fans and Sony Mobile team on Sony Germany‘s Facebook page. The team member stated:

The Xperia Z line has reached its culmination – Xperia X series represents a new chapter and evolution of our product strategy. Whilst the Xperia Z series was all about bringing the best of Sony’s advanced technologies to smartphones, Xperia X series is based on bringing smart, adaptive Sony user experiences across camera, battery performance and hardware / software design.

If the Xperia Z5 is indeed the last of the iconic series, then it has definitely bowed out with a bang as the Xperia Z5 Premium was the first phone to bring a 4K display to mobile devices.
