How to Place Taskbar icons at the Center in Windows 7

Taskbar icons are the icons present on the right most of the taskbar. It’ll be cool if you place the icon at the center. Here’s how you can do that:

1. First, create a new folder on your desktop or My Documents folder and name it NTB.

2. Then right click on your taskbar and make sure that your taskbar is unlocked. Uncheck this option to continue.

taskbar lock

3. Now right click on your taskbar and go to Toolbars-New Toolbar. From here select the folder that you created in the first step (NTB).

4. Now right click on the toolbar created on the taskbar and uncheck the options “show title” and “show text”.

5. Now drag the dotted separator all the way back to where the start button is.

7. Then add all the icons you want on the taskbar by dragging them to the right of the dotted separator for the NTB folder.

8. After adding all the icons just drag the dotted separator to the middle and you will get something like this:

taskbar center

Cool huh?!!! You can improve the look of your taskbar by changing the appearance of the icons and even changing the start orb.

This process is simple enough to be done by anybody and you don’t even have to download any type of docks or other accessories that use your computer’s resources. This looks equally good on the desktop.

Icon Notifier Makes Your iPhone Notifications More Intuitive

One of the most criticized aspects of the IOS is the way it handles its notifications. Most of the users would want the notifications to be more intuitive and interactive rather than the plain number of notifications displayed over the concerned icon, be it messages, IM’s or missed calls. IconNotifier brings a new refreshing alternative to the boring notification system of Apple.

clip_image002

For getting iconNotifier you must be on a jailbroken iPhone. What it does is that when installed it replaces the default notification system with a brand new notification system. All notifications will scroll underneath the icon for the app that generated them, replacing the name of the app itself.

iconNotifier supports many  applications such as Phone, Voicemail, SMS, push, alarm, calendar, popup blocker etc.

How to Hide Icons on Your SpringBoard on iPhone/iPad

Every so often we wish that some applications we download from the app store are hidden from the springboard so that nobody could see these applications exist. However, unlike Symbian which has readily available software to hide contents from your mobile device Apple does not quite allow this.

However, there is one way of hiding the icons on your springboard on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch. The most requirements for this is to have a jailbroken device.

On a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch, you must have SB Settings, you can learn how to get SB Settings from here(insert the link of the post I sent you about sb settings).

You are all set to hide applications from your springboard now, just follow these steps:

1) Open SB Settings.

2) Click on More.

3) Under System Options you will see Hide Icons. Tap that and let the items load.

4) A list with all the applications on your springboard would be generated.

clip_image002

5) The on toggle shows the applications that are visible, for example if I do not want people to see I have Bump on my iPhone, I will toggle the switch to OFF.

clip_image004

6) Return to SB Settings and press the home button, the application would have disappeared from the spring board.

However, there is point worth noting. The Application that you have selected to hide will still be listed in spotlight search on your iPhone so I suggest you turn Spotlight Search off for complete security.

How useful was this tip to you, and which application did you hide? Do let us know in the comments below.

How to Display And Hide Icons and Notifications On Windows 7 Taskbar

Windows taskbar is the area where all the opened programs, pinned program thumbnails appears. Also, on right there is a system tray present where programs icons appears. Sometimes these icons are present on the taskbar and some are hidden. To go through the hidden icons, you have to click on a small upper faced triangle.

Sometimes hidden icons turned out to be frustration because if you want to drag any file inside the hidden icon of the system tray then it won’t work until you move the icon to the taskbar. Windows provides the facility to display or hide any icons and notifications on taskbar. Here’s how to do that:

Click on the small triangle present on the taskbar next to the all the icons. A small box will appear having all the hidden icons.

taskbar-system-tray

Click on the “Customized” link at the bottom of the box.

Here you’ll get the list of all the icons and notifications. On next to their names, their behavior appears. If you want to change the behavior, click on the drop downs next to the icon’s name.

For example I clicked on drop down next to FluffyApp and three options appeared: Show icon and notifications, hide icon and notifications and only show notifications. Here I selected Show icon and notification for the Fluffy app because I want it to be present on the taskbar because I have to drag and drop file inside the icon.

hide-display-icons-taskbar

If you don’t want to hide any icon then simply check the box next to “Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar”.

No icons will be hidden and you’ll see the list of icons on the taskbar.

no-hidden-icons-taskbar

But for the clutter free taskbar it is advisable to hide all the unused icons and display only those which you use frequently. For example, for Action center, you can hide the icon and keep the notification ON  so that you can get time to time notifications without seeing the icon.

How To Use Latest Gmail Rich Signature Feature Effectively

Gmail rolled out with rich signature feature. It means you can insert images and links, change font size, colors, and many things in the signatures. Previously people used Greasemonkey scripts, Firefox and Chrome extensions to insert the rick text. This is a detailed guide to create rich signatures in Gmail. I also mentioned some tricks to find nice icons through smart Google search.

Enable the Gmail lab features

In Gmail click on Settings –> Labs. Now search for Inserting images lab features and enable it. Inserting images lab feature lets you insert images directly inside the mail. With the advent of new rick signature feature, you can also insert images inside signature but enabling this lab feature is mandatory.

5. While inserting the image I found the problem. Gmail doesn’t gave me option to insert images of my computer. One solution of this problem is either directly give the image URL you found with the help of Google search or upload the icon on your Flickr or Picasa account and insert the URL of the uploaded image.

6. After inserting the icon, you should hyperlink it so that if anyone clicks on it, it would redirect him to your social media profile. Here in the example, I inserted Facebook 22X22 icon in the signature. Now I selected it and then clicked on the link icon given at the top.

7. Now enter your profile URL in the Web address section. Click “Ok”.
