Download Bing Theme RSS Feed Pack Which Automatically Updates Desktop Wallpaper

Today Windows released a new Bing RSS theme pack for Windows 7 users. It is not a simple theme, it comes with a RSS feed. It means when you download this pack on your computer, your desktop background will automatically updated through Microsoft server time to time through RSS feeds (you’ll automatically receive two new photos from Bing every week for three months).

– Go to this link and click on the Download button.

– Double click on the downloaded BingDynamic1.theme file. A pop up will appear asks you to Subscribe to RSS Feed. Click on Download Attachments link.

– Also the personalize page will appear automatically. You’ll see the new applied theme pack. If you unable to see it, close the window and open it again by right clicking desktop and and choosing Personalize from the right click menu.

– Click on the Desktop Background link. You’ll see that the picture location is Microsoft theme server. It means your computer is fed up theme directly from the theme server.

Every week you’ll get 3 new Bing background pictures. Initially you’ll get 19 backgrounds wallpaper in the theme pack. You can select time to change the picture by clicking on the Change picture every dropdown. If the time is set to 30 minutes, it means the desktop background will change after every 30 minutes.

Note: Internet connection is required for theme update.

How To Backup Your Windows 7 PC

Windows 7 comes with a superb backup utility by which you can create backup of your system in few easy steps. Backup your data means creating a compressed file on a hard disk or external drive so that you can retrieve all the data whenever your computer hard disk crashes and any such any trouble occurs. Also you can create system image which might be helpful if your computer shows any system error and failed to start. Here’s how you can backup your Windows 7 PC.

1. Click on Start button and type backup in the search box and press Enter.

2. Backup and restore window will open. Click on “Set up backup”.

3. Select the location of backup. It is recommended to use external hard having lot of space disk for this purpose. You can also select hard disk partition as a backup location. After selecting the location, click “Next”.

4.To select the files to be backed up, select the option “Let me choose”. This option allows you to select libraries and folders and system image to include in backup. Click “Next”.

5. Select the library items. For example I selected documents, music, picture, video libraries and some additional locations such as AppData folder, contacts to include in the backup. Also I checked the check box next to “Include a system image of drives” to backup of drives required for Windows to run.

6. The backup is automatically scheduled to Sunday 7:00 PM every week. To change the schedule, click on “Change Schedule” link.

7. Select the schedule of backup with the help of drop down and click OK.

8. Now click on “Save settings and run backup”.

9. It will start your computer backup. It will take some time depending upon the size of data you backup. You can view the progress detail by clicking  the “View details” button.

10. It shows you the progress detail in a nice progress bar.

That’s it. After some time your backup will be finished. You can see the backup file in the backup location.

How To Change Screen Resolution In Windows 7 PC

Screen resolution decides the clearness of the display of computer. It decides how clear text and images appear on the screen. You should set your computer to higher resolution so that object appears clearer and sharper to you.

It means 1280 x 800 appears more sharper than 1280 x 600. Also at higher resolution, text and images appears smaller. It is advisable to work on a higher resolution. There are several advantages of high resolution over small resolutions.

How To Pin Web Applications To Windows 7 Taskbar

Internet Explorer 9 Beta is out and it arrived with some very cool features. Pinning web apps to Windows 7 taskbar is one such cool feature. Yesterday Edbott gave a fantastic review of IE 9 Beta. In case if you’ve missed it, you can check it.

IE 9 aloows you to pin any web apps or website to Windows 7 taskbar. It means you can pin websites, blogs or any web application to the taskbar and open it anytime you want. Here’s how you can do it.

1. Download IE 9 Beta.

2. Install and open the browser.

3. Open your favorite website.

4. Drag the website’s tab to the Windows 7 taskbar.

5. Now, right click on the pinned application and you’ll see the real magic. You can find shortcuts for almost every tasks of that application. For example I pinned Twitter website to the taskbar and when I clicked on the Twitter taskbar icon, I found the link of DM, reply, @Mentions, favorites and search.

Similarly I pinned this blog also on the taskbar. It come in handy if you start your computer and want to open your favorite web app immediately. You don’t need to open the browser to type the name of website or search it via bookmark bar.

I think it’s a result of great strategy by IE team because they know very well that people will use IE again and again if it will come on the taskbar. Thanks Microsoft for such a nice feature.

A Comprehensive Guide To Windows 7 Library

Windows introduced Library feature in latest Windows 7 OS which is known as organizational element of your computer. It makes easier to navigate to various folders stored inside your computer, network and external drive. In first glance it looks complicated but it is not very difficult to understand. This article describes each and every feature of library point to point.

What is Library

Library is a new organizational feature of Windows 7 which lets you jump, view, search similar items (music, photos, songs, video, documents etc.). Ultimately it makes easier to manage your files and folders.

How Library is beneficial

Suppose you have several folders in your computer. Now you want to open a movie folder inside which you stored all the movies. What will you do? Definitely you click on Computer-> Drive-> Folders –> Folders…… This is a time consuming process. Library makes it easy to jump to any important folder. All you have to do is go to library and click on “Videos” link. If your folder is added inside library, you’ll find it instantly (later in this guide I will describe how to add folders inside library).

Library can be called up as virtual folder which is connected to various folders of your computer and external hard drive. Instead of visiting to those folders through their original path, you can open them simply by visiting Library. In easy words it will save your time and effort.

How to open a Library

Opening Library is easy. There are several ways to open it but the easiest one is click on the folder icon on the taskbar.

Other way to open library is to open the Windows explorer first (use “Win+E” keys of your keyboard). Then on the navigation pane, click on Libraries.

The third way is to type libraries in the start menu search box and hit “Enter”.

Looking Inside Elements Of Library

Windows 7 default library contains four elements namely Documents, Pictures, Podcasts, Music, Videos. You can always add more elements to the library (we will look it later).

To explain all the features of Library let’s focus on any one element of library, lets say “Music”. Open the library and click on the “Music” link.

After clicking on Music link, you’ll find some folders inside it. These folders are called locations. You wonder how these folders (locations) included inside library. Windows automatically includes “My music” folder present inside C:\Users\Administrator and C:\User\Public. Also few applications (such as Zune) installs folders inside My music folders during installation therefore you will see those also in the list.

To see all the locations inside the music library, click on “x locations” link next to “Includes”.

The music library locations window will open. You can see all the locations present inside current music library. Any time you can add and remove locations from the library with the help of “Add” and “Remove” button. In the screenshot below you can see there are three default locations present namely “My Music”, “Public Music” and “Zune (created due to Zune installation)”.

How to add and remove locations inside library

The real use of library is when you add several location inside it so that you don’t need to go to that location path by path. Adding locations inside library is easy. Just go to any folder and right click on it and select “Include in Library” from the drop down list.

In the screenshot below, I clicked on Songs folder present inside F drive of my computer and add it to music library. Now, next time I don’t have to visit F drive to access music files present inside “Songs” folder. Just a click to music library will give me access to that folder. Cool, isn’t it.

There is one more method to add locations to library. Click on the folder you want to add and the click on drop down present at the top of explorer below address bar. Select any one of the given library. The location will included inside the library soon.

Deleting location

To delete any location present inside any library, first open the library and then click on “x locations” given next to “Includes”. It will open the “Library locations” window. Now select the folder you want to remove and click on “Remove” button. The folder will be removed.

How to create new libraries

It is possible to create one or more library to take advantage of its feature. You may ask the question that what is the need of second library if we already have one? Well, there is a simple answer to this question, if you are moving more and more folders inside library then it is better to have more than one library to customize your work.

Creating new library is easy. Just open the Libraries and click on “New library” button given below the address bar. A new library will be created. Now give a name to it.

I gave a name “Office work” to my new library to manage all my office folders at the single place. Now its time to add some folders. To add folders I clicked on “Include a folder” button.

Now go to any location on your computer and select the folders. You can add one folder at a time. For example in the screenshot given below I added “Office1” folder. Similarly I added all my Office related folders.

Few other points to note about Library

  • Deleting library won’t delete any folders or files attached to it.
  • If you delete any of the four default library (music, pictures, videos, documents), you can restore it by right clicking on “Libraries” in the navigation pane and selecting “Restore default library”.
  • If you delete any folder from its original location then it will be automatically removed from the library.
  • You can add or include folders inside library from your computer hard disk as well as external hard drive, USB drive (NTFS, FAT32 formatted), computers in homegroup network and other network locations.

These are the things about Windows 7 library. If you are not using it then you are missing one awesome feature of the new OS. How To Turn On or Off Windows 7 Explorer Panes

Windows 7 explorer comes with some nice customizable options by which you can show or hide some elements from it. In Windows explorer the main elements are address bar, menu bar, and panes (navigation, contents, details and preview). Given below is the image along with name of all the elements.

If you want to turn of any particular pane then you can do it easily. Just click on “organize” drop down. Click on layout. In the screenshot shown below, every options shown under layout are checked. Click on elements name to uncheck them.

For example I clicked on Details pane, Menu bar pane and Navigational pane to turn them off. Now you can see in the below screenshot that only navigational pane is present and rest of them are inactive. You can anytime turn them on by selecting the options again.

How To Pin Files And Folders To Start Menu In Windows 7

Windows 7 start menu gives you instant access to programs, files, folders, control panel and other parameters of the computer. Start menu comprises of two area. First is pinned items area where all the pinned programs are placed, second area is recent programs area where you can see the latest programs opened by you.

You can pin any program to pinned items area by right clicking on its icon and selecting “Pin to start menu”. This is true for all the executable programs. If you try it for any files or folders then you won’t find such option. It doesn’t mean that you can’t pin them to the start menu.

Here’s an easy work around to pin files and folders to the start menu. Go to the windows explorer, then to a folder which you want to pin in the start menu. Now drag and drop it to the start button.

All done. Now check the start menu. You’ll find the dropped folder in the pinned area. Similarly you can drag and drop any file and it will be pinned in start menu.

Click on the folder to open it in windows explorer. Similarly when you click any file then it will open inside the default program.
