If you are using Gmail for last few years and want to track any term then there is only one way to do that, i.e. Gmail inbuilt search facility. But Gmail search doesn’t provide you the visualize data of any search term. For example if you want to track a keyword ‘Facebook’ in Gmail then it won’t tell you how many mails you received related to Facebook in the month of September 2010. Of course you can add some more keywords to track your emails but still it will not provide you the visualize result.
There is a nice Google Chrome extension known as Graph Your Inbox that tracks all your emails and give result immediately in an interactive graphical manner. It is fast, easy to use and secure. You can download the extension from Google Chrome extension site absolutely free. After installation, an icon will appear on your Chrome’s extension bar (at the top right). Click on it to search for any term (you should logged into Gmail account before using this extension).
On first time when you search for any term, it will ask you to add Gmail widget in the iGoogle . Click on ‘Click here’ link and it will redirect you to your iGoogle account.
On iGoogle page, click on “Add it now” button.
Now click again on the extension’s icon and use the search box. It will search and give you the result within few seconds. Enter the keyword such as Amazon or Paypal to know when you received mails related to these sites. It also includes data from Gtalk conversation therefore if you mentioned Amazon in your chat then it will include that conversation too in the result.
I searched for the terms Facebook, windows and google and got all the results from year 2007 to till now. It displays the result in three parts: conversations by month and year (all time), conversations from current month, conversations by year.
You can search for particular label or enter email address of any user to know how many times you received emails or talked to that person in Gmail. By using this extension you can easily track the pattern of purchasing products from the sites like Amazon or eBay, or you can know when you receive money in your PayPal account. You can Click on one of the data points given on the graph to view all the conversations during that time period (it will display it in Conversation Previews section).
