Whatsapp for Nokia Asha 501 Arrives through an Update

When Nokia released the Asha 501, plenty of people called it the perfect second smartphone. With exceptional battery life, and a unique interface, in a cute little colorful body, the Asha 501 has been a hit. Yet, one of the few complains that people had with the device was the rather mind boggling no show of the popular IM app, Whatsapp.

However, if you still decided to take a dip in your wallets for the Asha 501, Nokia has sort of rewarded you with a software update which would allow you to enjoy and stalk your friends out on Whatsapp. Nokia had promised the update at the Nokia World 2013 last month. So all you need to do is to install the update which would enable a Whatsapp launcher on your homescreen of the device and you can simply click on that to install Whatsapp.

Not just Whatsapp, the update for Asha 501 brings several of the new UI features on the device which have been found on the newly announced Asha 500, 502 and 503. The update will be available OTA for all the users.

Some of the features of the update are:

  • Improved Privacy Features
  • Lock Screen Notifications are customizable
  • Update for Whatsapp Support
  • Easy to Capture and Share Images on Whatsapp
  • Personalize Fastlane Content
  • More services show notifications in Fastlane, including: Odnoklassniki, Sina Weibo, and Renren
  • API included for VOIP
