After announcing Cortana, almost 4 months ago, since it announced Cortana as a part of the Windows Phone 8.1 update, Microsoft has decided to bring the personal assistant to India as an Alpha. The latest Windows Phone 8.1 update will bring Cortana as a Beta to China, while other countries such as India and Australia and Canada will receive it as an Alpha. The reason for this is slow development due to regional restrictions.
Since Cortana uses a lot of location as well as contextual features, you can understand why Microsoft is calling this an Alpha release as there is no doubt there would be a bucket load of posts on how COrtana is struggling to pick the Indian English accent. Support for live folders as well as enhanced VPN support would be a part of this update that should roll out on devices in the coming months as the developer release goes live from next week onwards.
For the moment, those in India, Canada or Australia will have to do with the American or UK Cortana models, while the one specific for these regions is being built up. XBox Music has been updated too to bring new features alongside Cortana’s ability to play via Bluetooth when you are in car. You can also select and delete batch messages thanks to this latest update.
