The second half of the year 2015, was slightly quieter if you go by the blockbuster presence that Xiaomi likes. The reason was perhaps, that Xiaomi was already preparing for a slew of launches that was to hit us as soon as the year changed. The first of the new devices from Xiaomi in the year 2016, is already out and is called the RedMi 3. RedMi is the line of devices from Xiaomi which focusses on low end/ budget devices and generally have their pricing well below the Rs 10,000 mark here in India. The RedMi 3 will technically serve as a successor to the RedMi 2 or the RedMi 2 Prime, depending upon where you live.
The phone is priced at a very competitive 699 Yuan price point, which comes to be around Rs 7,100 price point. Despite the price, the phone comes with a full metallic body and a unique pattern on the back and still manages to stay thinner than the RedMi 2. The internals of the phone are fairly impressive too. The RedMi 3comes with a 5.5 inch 720P display which has the Snapdragon 616 SoC under the hood. You have 2 GB of RAM as well as 16 GB internal storage. There is a hybrid SIM slot, which doubles up either as a secondary SIM slot or a house for the Micro SD slot. There is 4G support for both the SIM cards.
On the camera front, you have a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front snapper. The phone runs MIUI 7 on Android Lollipop, and there is currently no word on the launch plans for India or upgrade to Marshmallow.
