Xiaomi Launches the RedMi Note and RedMi Note 4G in India

After teasing us for a while, Xiaomi has decided to bring their first phablet device, the Xiaomi RedMi Note in India. As a surprise, Xiaomi also announced a 4G variant of the same device for India, which will retail for Rs 9,999, an exact 1K more than the standard dual SIM 3G variant of the device. Both the devices will be launched on Flipkart exclusively, though you can pick up the Note 4G from select Airtel outlets in the Metro cities too.

Xiaomi Redmi Note Launch

The RedMi Note 3G will go on sale on Flipkart on December 2, with registrations opening on November 25th, and will see the RedMi 1S retired for a while as the Chinese manufacturers push the RedMi Note as their only offering. The Note 4G will go on sale sometime in the middle of December and will come exclusively with Airtel connection to utilise their LTE network. There is no carrier subsidy involved here like in North America or Europe, so you will have to pay the money upfront and then carry on using the phone like any other SIM card.

Hugo Barra, Vice President of Xiaomi Global, commented:

The support from Indian fans has been our greatest driving force to deliver the best products ever in India. Redmi Note builds upon Mi India’s promise to bring in high-quality devices that provide an excellent user experience. We also built Redmi Note 4G especially for India’s 4G network. With its long-lasting battery life and a large 5.5-inch screen among many other outstanding features, all for an amazing price, I believe Redmi Note will keep the momentum going in India.

In terms of specifications, both the devices are similar. They both feature the same 5.5 inch 720 P IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and 3100 mAh removable battery. In terms of the chipset, the 4G variant of the unit will have Snapdragon 400 clocked at 1.6 GHz while the 3G unit will have 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor. The 3G unit will support active Dual SIM standby, while the 4G one is a single SIM phone. Both the devices have 2 GB RAM and 8 GB internal memory with expansion slot. The 3G variant still runs Android 4.2 out of the both while the 4G unit runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. Both these devices have MiUI running on top. The camera is a 13 MP unit with 5 MP front snapper.
