Xiaomi to Sell Phones in India Again, but there is a catch

After being issued an injunction that prevented them from selling their products in India on grounds of patent infringement, Xiaomi is set to return to the game in India. The Chinese manufacturer received a good news following the ruling by the New Delhi High Court but not everything was hunky dory. The court has allowed Xiaomi to hold sales of only its Qualcomm based devices and only up to January 8th.

RedMi 1s

This means Xiaomi would not be able to sell the 3G variant of its newly launched phablet, RedMi Note but can go ahead with the sales of RedMi Note 4G variant as well as the RedMi 1s as both the phones are powered by Qualcomm chipsets.

Hugo Barra, VP of Xiaomi Internation also confirmed the news stating that the first sale of the Xiaomi RedMi 1s will go live on Flipkart on December 23rd. As usual, you will have to register for the sale and to be eligible to pick the handset. Hugo also confirmed that this is not all, and Xiaomi will also very soon be listing the RedMi Note on Flipkart.

It would be interesting to see what happens with Xiaomi in terms of a long solution to the patenting issues with Ericsson. The likes of Micromax who fought Ericsson were issued orders to pay a royalty of 1% of the selling price of each smartphone sold to Ericsson and there is a possibility, the courts will ask Xiaomi to do just that.
